Meet Guillermo
Growing up in Mexico City, one of the world’s most populous cities, Guillermo de Santiago quickly learned that, to succeed, he had to push himself out of his comfort zone. Meeting so many people with so many different backgrounds and personalities further expanded his perspective.
But he learned the most important lessons right at home, from his parents.
“They taught me to always to be a good and honest person,” he recalls, “and to always set high expectations, fight for my dreams, and be the best in every activity. My family continues to be the motor in my life, driving me to be a better person every day.”
While studying to become a chemical engineer, Guillermo started working with his father, a mechanical and electrical engineer. His experiences at power plants, oil refineries, and liquefied natural gas facilities motivated him to develop his career in the energy industry.
Five years ago, he joined us at New Fortress Energy, and since 2021, he has been the Project Manager overseeing every aspect of the development and construction of our La Paz terminal and power plant.
“I’m so proud to be able to help bring cleaner and more affordable energy to the people in my home country,” Guillermo says. “It was a huge challenge, but it helped me develop skills that I didn’t even know I had. I am grateful for the trust I received from NFE to lead this important project for our company, for the city of La Paz and the state of Baja California Sur. I’m looking forward to developing similar projects with NFE, applying all the knowledge I learned to continue growing both personally and professionally.”
He also values the teamwork he has experienced throughout the company.
“I’m so proud of the team we built locally,” he says. “These talented, hardworking people made this project a reality, and I feel so fortunate to have been able to lead them. They represent what makes NFE great. The partnership and support among all areas of the company and the teamwork you develop make success possible.”
It’s no surprise that Guillermo is known for being passionate, committed, and friendly. He’s also an optimist, as you can see from his top wish on his personal bucket list.
“I want to take my kids to a World Cup,” he says with a smile, “and see Mexico as the world champion!”
