Meet Sergio

Sergio Gomes grew up in the Brazilian town of Ouro Preto (“Black Gold”), named for the iron-oxide-covered gold. In this region, rich with history and culture, he has reaped the treasure of deep family ties that inspired his occupational safety career.

NFE employee

“My father was dedicated to his work, and he always came home safely,” Sergio recalls. “That made me believe in the potential of people to return home every day without accidents.”

Today, as our Health, Safety, Security, Environmental, and Quality (HSSEQ) Supervisor, his colleagues value his reliability, loyalty, integrity, and focus as he surveys and studies how to eliminate or reduce the risks of accidents at work. He leads our efforts to analyze risks, develop prevention and control measures, ensure compliance with policies and legal requirements, promote a zero-accident culture, conduct audits and inspections, and implement educational initiatives and technological solutions to improve workplace health, safety, and environmental quality.

Since joining New Fortress Energy in 2021, Sergio has supported construction and start-up for the Barcarena gas terminal and the Novo Tempo & Portocem thermal power plants in Brazil.

“I am very proud of all the work that has been done,” Sergio says, “and all the work we are doing today—very successfully, and very safely.”

NFE employee

Sergio appreciates NFE’s environment, defined by strong relationships, opportunities for development, continuous learning, and new challenges to tackle every day. The work fulfills his childhood dreams and fuels his professional aspirations.

"My family and the daily challenges I face are my greatest motivations,” he says. “They drive my learning, personal growth, and desire to complete my engineering degree while advancing within NFE."

He also finds positive energy in helping start, build, and operate facilities that make a positive difference.

“At New Fortress Energy, we are pioneering solutions for our clients and our world,” he says. “I’m grateful to be able to lead our efforts to guarantee the safety of our processes while developing and improving the culture of work safety with all our employees and partners. Maintaining zero accidents is possible, and we aim to prove it every moment of every day.”
