Meet Luis
From a young age, Luis Santiago was fascinated by fixing, disassembling, and troubleshooting everything around him to see how it worked – and to figure out how to make it better. This passion led him to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering with a focus on industrial maintenance, and a career that combines hands-on technical work with opportunities for development.
For the past five years, Luis has worked with us in operations roles, including supporting the commissioning and start-up process of the Palo Seco emergency power plant constructed for FEMA and our San Juan terminal. He currently serves as our Senior Operations Supervisor at our San Juan terminal.
“It is a great happiness and satisfaction that I’ve been able to lead the start of a project as ambitious and significant as the Palo Seco emergency power plant,” he says.
Luis is known for his hard work, commitment, responsibility, and desire to grow every day. He sets goals, achieves them, and quickly moves on to new challenges.
“Human beings should always pursue something,” says Luis, who is in the midst of earning his master’s degree in project management. “Every day is an opportunity to keep learning, improving, and growing. It gives us a purpose to get up every day and be a better person than we were yesterday.”
It’s that spirit of continuous learning that makes NFE an ideal fit for him.
“NFE is a dynamic company of rapid growth and expansion,” Luis says, “and I find everything related to liquefied natural gas compelling. Working here requires a great ability to learn and a commitment to keep the power flowing. I appreciate how much there is to learn and how many opportunities we have had to develop.”
His childhood in Carolina, Puerto Rico, was filled with love, respect, and invaluable lessons brought to life by his parents’ admirable example. Now, as a parent himself, Luis works to honor the sacrifices his parents made to instill strong values, provide a quality education, and nurture him with love. For Luis, whether he’s at work or at home, it’s all about his profound sense of duty to leave the world better than he found it.
“Since Hurricane Maria in 2017, Puerto Rico has been going through an energy crisis,” he says. “Working for New Fortress Energy makes me feel that I am contributing positively to the reconstruction and stability of the country. There is no better positive energy than feeling you are doing something good every day for your island.”
