Meet Edgar

Edgar Moratilla’s childhood spanned three countries, from his primary home in Mexico City, Mexico, to extended stays in Ireland and Italy. He recalls big family reunions, sports practices, and discussions about the family architecture and construction business – which his parents used as a foundation for him and his three siblings to pursue their dreams.

“Though my mother and father grew up with more limited opportunities then I did, they stepped up, providing us with the tools to set a stable future for ourselves,” Edgar says. “They are my main influences, through the principles of family values, hard work, and having a purpose.”

His grandfather’s aeronautical engineering background and casual chats about engines and turbines helped spark Edgar’s early fascination with machines and the intricate mechanisms that bring them to life.

“In college, I chose to major in mechatronics engineering since it combined my interests with real-life applications of cool technologies such as automation and robotics,” he explains. “Additionally, I realized that during many conferences I attended, the bigger technology company speakers were top managers who had engineering backgrounds.”

After more than a decade in engineering, sales, and project development roles, Edgar joined us in 2019 as Commercial Manager, focused on the small-scale business unit. He then supported the development team during the construction of the regasification sites at La Paz, and later served on the permitting team as an Asset Manager.

He’s now the Manager at our 127-megawatt Pichilingue power plant in La Paz, Baja California Peninsula, Mexico. Running entirely on natural gas from our liquefied natural gas terminal and regasification site, the plant is a regional lifeline, providing reliable energy to keep the area powered. Leading administrative tasks, commercial relations, and stakeholder communications, he ensures smooth operations and continued progress.

Edgar is immensely proud of having helped bring natural gas to the remote southern region of Baja California—an initiative that others had evaluated and attempted many times before, but that only became a reality through NFE’s groundbreaking approach.

“NFE is the most dynamic and versatile company I know,” he says. “My goal is to contribute to society in a meaningful way with a personal touch, and I am grateful to have had the privilege of participating in projects that are now benchmarks in the industry.”

Beyond his enthusiasm for his professional responsibilities, Edgar’s greatest source of power comes from his beloved family, including his wife, son, and daughter.

With an insatiable drive to conquer new challenges, Edgar’s bucket list includes flying on a supersonic fighter aircraft, learning to play the piano, and creating something entirely from the ground up. His work with us at NFE already embodies that last goal, as he and his team shape the future of energy in Baja California.

“The impact of what we do is clear, and it is fulfilling to know that we help keep the city lit and alive,” Edgar reflects. “That powers me with positive energy.”
