Relax – NFE and RAV Bahamas team up to bring reliable LNG to a luxury resort
LNG CASE STUDY
Making a vacation destination even more perfect
Visitors enticed by the promise of a “more perfect paradise” can now look forward to staying at the luxurious 750-acre RAV Bahamas resort inclusive of Resorts World Bimini resort & casino, where the piña coladas are cold and the fried conch are fresh – because the power stays on.
The site has long relied on costly and unreliable diesel-fueled generators to supply its power. That’s why New Fortress Energy (NFE) has been working with RAV Bahamas, a part-owner of Resorts World Bimini and owner of local construction company OPAC Construction, on a dependable, turnkey solution: clean, reliable, liquefied natural gas (LNG) fueled power.
Despite the global pandemic, NFE was able to transition the site to a more reliable, more affordable, and more environmentally friendly energy source, liquefied natural gas (LNG) – on-time, and under budget.(1) NFE is supplying all the equipment for gas and power, as well as the LNG needed to fuel the facility. Talk about positive energy!
In October 2020, NFE completed the full switchover to the LNG-fueled plant, and now RAV Bahamas acts as a private power provider to the resort and casino, its facilities, homes, and private villas on the property. Through this new operation, ISO tanks are filled at NFE’s plant in Miami, Florida, then shipped to the island, where NFE’s fast, reliable logistics experts keep the energy flowing.
The onsite power generation capacity is roughly nine megawatts (seven megawatts from LNG, and an additional two megawatts of diesel backup). In addition to reducing fuel costs by 29 percent, the site has also reduced its carbon footprint by about 27 percent.(2)
This partnership enables RAV Bahamas to expedite development efforts as they are now in control of their power and can add generation as needed for new development requirements.
"As a company, and a business partner, New Fortress Energy has exceeded expectations every step of the way, especially with their fast and reliable delivery of liquefied natural gas (LNG),” says Timothy Green, Associate General Counsel & Director of Operations, RAV Bahamas.
This partnership is like taking a permanent vacation to a more sustainable world, equivalent to taking more than 1,400 cars off the road or planting more than 100,000 trees.(2) It’s making this gorgeous island a cleaner and greener place – and isn’t that what paradise is all about?
